Mock is a fresh, new voice who speaks for the transgender community within the LGBTQ community. Her book Redefining Realness was the first memoir from a trans woman and also was a New York Time’s Bestseller and it opened thousands of individuals eyes globally on what it is like to be a transgender human being. Mock writes and speaks on race, womanhood as a trans woman, Black women figures in the media and many other topics. Her ability to write and speak on her ideals in reference to feminism is pivotal to the revitalization of Black feminism.
On behalf of Equal Justice USA and due to her die-hard spirit of activism, Brown contributes tremendously on and off the clock. Her passion for racial justice and feminism is clear by her day to day actions on social media. She contributes to numerous discussions on Twitter in reference to topics such as: ‘policing’ black women’s bodies and practicing self-care. On the forefront of racial justice is where you’ll find Brown leading and contributing to direct action training sessions and protesting on the streets of N.Y. and Ferguson, Miss. Brown’s commitment to speaking out against the ills of being a marginalized individual in America are highly beneficial to the state of Black feminism.
As a blogger turned editor and writer, Lemieux understands the impact of media platforms and their ability to reach millions of people worldwide. Her pieces on Ebony’s digital platform are always well written and passionate. Her ability to skillfully project her writing voice on Ebony and on Twitter is unique. She adds to the list of feminist curators who are shifting ideals on Black feminism on a day to day basis. At the interactive panel Beyond Binaries & Boxes in Brooklyn in November Lemieux stated: “We need to affirm the humanity of other black women and girls in every space.”
A self-defined sex positive feminist, FeministaJones works daily to contribute to the destruction of specific gender roles which are unhealthy for Black women to digest. FeministaJones is also a mental health social worker which allows her to speak knowingly about issues in reference to self-care, mental health and sexual health. Her distinct voice captivates audiences and allows her to be featured on television shows speaking about her numerous areas of expertise. FeministaJones' voice is essential to Black feminism due to her ability to speak from an educated yet fresh perspective. She also speaks out against street harassment which is relevant.
As a two time graduate of Florida A&M University and graduate of the University of Cincinnati's College of Law, Brooks has earned her spot on the list of top curators. Her conscious efforts in undergrad, graduate school and in law school prove her commitment to feminism globally and nationally. "While in law school I was given the opportunity to work and partially practice abroad, because of my specific interest in international human rights law. I worked on LGBT and Women’s rights issues at Dow & Associates in Gaborone, Botswana. There, I represented women who were survivors of domestic violence relationships to ensure their legal protection. I am currently an Illinois licensed attorney practicing employment & labor as well as family law at The Law Offices of Coleman & Brown, LLC," said Brooks.
