YOU ARE DONE!!!

Creating a Book Trailer

A Step by Step Guide

Finalize your trailer

Make a Folder

How to get started:

Find Your Pictures

1. Explore book trailers on-line = look and see what is out there already to get inspiration/ideas.

2. Use the template provided in OneNote to create a storyboard/outline/blueprint for your trailer.

Now you are ready to create your trailer...

Rules:

You can draw and scan your own pictures.

You can take own digital images.

You can find your images online.

  • Only 10% of your trailer can be images/video from a movie. This translates into 6 seconds for a 1 minute trailer.
  • Use only music that is legally permissible - also called "royalty free"
  • incompetech.com
  • 60 seconds is the bulls eye - a little less or a little more is fine
  • All content of your trailer MUST be school appropriate.

Your Mission:

Find Your Music

Convince others that this is THE book to read.

Create a fully animated trailer that works without your interaction.

Align the tone/mood of your trailer directly with the tone/mood of your novel.

Make the theme/plot (if applicable) of your novel blatantly obvious for the viewer.

Goal: 60 second-ish trailer

Make your book sound interesting.

Carefully edit for pacing: make certain that the length for images/videos enhances the overall trailer.

Carefully edit colors/text/images to align with the tone/mood your are trying to develop.

Consider the format of your trailer carefully - often a focus on plot will work well with a fiction work, but not so well with a non-fiction text (in this case a focus on theme(s) may be more effective).

Use "royalty free" music.

Music without words works best
