1. What is digital media?

Students learn about the purpose of digital media, learn to define digital media, and assess the effectiveness of different digital media types.

Want some examples?

They learn about the types of digital media products and programs they can use to manipulate digital media...

but how do you go about teaching all these things?

that brings us to the next topic

2. What does a unit of work look like for digital media?

This unit of work was taken from the Assessment Resource Centre of the Board of Studies.

The students had to "develop a portfolio of original images" to be used in an unspecified design project they were undertaking.

Each student needed to design at least one of each of these things...

  • a still graphic of their own creation

  • an animation of their own creation

  • a collection of navigation buttons either of their own creation or collected from an appropriate internet source

  • a collection of graphical headings and subheadings a scanned image from a photograph or original drawing for which the student has copyright

  • a video of no more than 30 seconds that shows some form of video editing

A student:

5.1.1 selects and justifies the application of appropriate software programs to a range of tasks

5.1.2 selects, maintains and appropriately uses hardware for a range of tasks

5.2.1 describes and applies problem-solving processes when creating solutions

5.2.2 designs, produces and evaluates appropriate solutions to a arrange of challenging problems

5.5.2 communicates ideas, processes and solutions to a targeted audience

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • select and use appropriate file formats
  • select, manipulate and produce samples for a range of data types.
