My Proposal

I feel that my magazine will be successful because there is a gap in the market for a magazine that appeals to my target audience, also my magazine will explicitly expose the lives of producers and artist to a level which other competitors do not; fulfilling my users need and gratification for curiosity. The gig and rave listings will be a main attraction of the magazine and there are limited magazines which provide listings for raves which fulfil the reader’s gratification for social relationships and communication. Also the magazine breaks the typical conventions of an indie or R&B magazine and the market are always looking for something new and fresh but as I will be emphasising on the brand identity the consumer will always want to buy the magazine. Lastly the target audience I am aiming at want to know about the newest music and artists and my magazine will be able to provide the latest downloads and new exclusive materials.

The type of magazine I want to produce will be a music magazine will be based on the style and values of people who like dubstep and drum and base. It will be heavily stylised and explore the different elements in the genre of music from singers to producers and Dj’s. The magazine will include lots of gig listings, featuring of new breakthrough artists in the underground scene, insights to their lives and articles based on their interests and hobbies. The magazine will have a slight dark aura to it as dubstep and drum and base are usually associated with care-free attitude, power and things today society frown upon. As the magazine will be stylised, it is appropriate that I include fashion trends of the social group to innovate and interest the reader. Looking into new technology, the magazine will also feature lots of online features and subscriptions using twitter, facebook, tumblr and sound cloud; this is to keep up with today’s technology and keep reader interested and make the magazine more accessible.

Style

The magazine will have a busy but stylised design. It will be quite minimalistic but will have quirky and bold different designs applied to it. I aim for the colour scheme to either be quite dark and empowering but if it does not look effective I will make it light and more futuristic. My target audience are quite artistic so I will have to create something that is appealing to the audience.

Business Features

Target Audience

As my magazine will be aimed at young adults, assuming that they are still in education and do not have high income I will not be making the price really high, I will be using the features of a dual income and try gain money through advertisement. I will be selling my magazine for apx. £2 it is affordable but if it becomes of high demand it will make a profitable amount.

The magazine will publish a issue every 14 days, this ensures that the reader does not get bored if we give them too much editorial every week but also does not leave them with nothing to read if it was to be monthly. 14 days is a good amount of days for the reader to be consumed and to read the magazine and use it proficiently.

Subscription will be available and will be issued through online services, also the customer will get free gifts and downloads and 20% off the original price if there is a bulk subscription. There will be different selections of subscriptions for example, for 1 month, 6 months, year; this gives flexibility to the customer and allows freedom.

As mentioned before I will be using lots of new media’s in the interweb. Using things like twitter, facebook, soundcloud and tumblr to help promote and create different features to make the magazine more relevant to today’s society.

My target audience will be aimed at young adults from aged 17 onward till about 25, male and female. I chose this age because they have just left education and are starting to become more independent and making their own choices. From making their own choices they have either entered a world of higher education (sixth form, collage, university or finding a job). Meaning they meet more people and start to find themselves as individuals. This is the period of their lives when they are most vulnerable to social events, parties, gigs and festivals. I have found a gap in the music magazine for people who enjoy dubstep, drum and base and grime. I feel that there is a large social group of people who like that genre of music and they all have common values and interests. The social group of people I will be aiming my magazine to will be people who enjoy dubstep and drum and base.

Competition

As my magazine's design is a cross between indie and R&B I feel I will have alot of competition. Magazines like 'Vibe' and 'YO' from the R&B category and 'NME' and 'Q' from the indie rock will be my main competitors. They both include different reviews of events but to ensure my magazine has advantages I will include a page of upcoming events and keep the reader informed of upcoming artists and concerts. Also they both have exclusive articles but I will be aiming my articles more on my target audience than anyone famous. Mine will be more target specific to ensure my target audience feel informed and entertained to the maximum potential.
