Misha's Take-Aways
DC Practical Take-Away #4
- Do my research and bring a "fact sheet" with me for everything we go to
- While waiting in line go over interesting details/history to make something more meaningful
- If I plan 4-5 months in advance, I can get a ticket for a student group to see almost anything
Vice-Secretary Position
- Multiple secretaries in Senate and the House
- Secretary is a highly specialized job, hard to find replacement in the event the secretary is absent
- New position, role and duties open to discussion
DC Practical Take-Away #3
- There are huge crowds everywhere
- It takes a long time to get from one place to another
- When planning your students' itinerary google map everything
- Bring a hard copy of all addresses we are going to
- Include driving/walking time to each event
- Allow for lots of "line time"
DC Practical Take-Away #2
- Be Ready for Security
- Wherever you go you have to:
- take off your coat
- have your purse checked
- go through a metal detector
- a new non-metal belt with get you 15 minutes of your life back
- Remedy=Pack LIGHT
- Be Ready for Anything
- A portable phone charger will save you!
Everyone Has a Voice
- Watching and learning from the Supreme Court
- Justices don't know how they are going to vote when walking into a meeting
- Justices don't know what the other members think until the meeting discussion
- Everyone must speak before someone gets a second turn
- We can hand out cards for motioning so that everyone has the opportunity
- Make sure everyone has a voice in Student Senate
DC Practical Take-Away #1
- When going to DC make a note that I am serious about good shoes.
- Shoes you can literally walk 35 miles in....literally...
An amazing group of students willing to selflessly come to a group decision is EVERYTHING.
You can achieve SO MUCH in a little amount of time and
HAVE FUN.
