Convince the reader with opinions

Recap

What's the Difference?

Persuasive - This type of essay requires the writer to pick a stance on a topic and convince the reader that their view is the correct way to think.

*Both can be biased but a good argument favors fact over opinion

Argumentative - This type of essay requires the writer to investigate a topic and collect credible data in order to establish a logical stance on the topic.

Example

Rebuttal?

Counterclaim?

A contradiction to the counterclaim

For example: while a persuasive paper might claim that cities need to adopt recycling programs, an argument paper on the same topic might be addressed to a particular town.

The argument paper would go further, suggesting specific ways that a recycling program should be adopted and utilized in that particular area.

Opposing argument

Some people think [opposing argument] because [fact] but [rebuttal].

This should be a fact that supports the opposing view!
