Point 1 - 5 Analysis'

For A2, I also conducted five analysis of music videos. When I did these, my chosen genre was rock. I looked at Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco,The Struts and One Republic. I talked about the conventions of a rock music video among the powerpoints,and how my previous research into the conventions of rock music videos were evident in the ones I analysed. I also wrote a post outlining the conventions of rock music videos that became apparent after analysing the videos, something of a step up from AS, showing that my use of real media texts in my research over the two years has greatly improved. Despite the fact that I changed my genre to pop after researching rock conventions, the research was still useful in the sense that it gave me an idea of how music videos work in general, regarding continuity and editing. It showed me how continuity is not necessarily a very important feature of music videos, as it is over a lapsed time scale and not quite in chronological order.

For both AS and A2, I have completed five analysis of exisitng media texts. In AS I analysed five opening sequences from films relating to my genre and idea. I analysed Edwards Scissorhands, Fight Club, Dorian Gray, Donnie Darko and Se7en looking at the order of credits and how the graphics and images used gave me a sort of introduction to the plot and genre of the film. Most of the films I looked at were thrillers, the genre that I was working in, however I did look at one film that is not a thriller. Edwards Scissorhands is more of a fantasy film, but I chose to analyse it's title sequence because the dark themes within it were quite inspirational to my ideas at the time. I talked about how I liked the camera angles and shots used (panning and zoom) and the way the videos were edited with a blue tint. I did not use any inspiration from this opening sequence in my final video however I still value the analysis because it helped me shape my ideas for what I wanted my video to look like. Something that I didnt do very much of in AS was talk about how I would use the conventions I found in my five analysis'. However this year, I have conciously made the decision to talk about how the things I analysed will influence my final video.
