Typhon

Echidna

and their

Monster Children

Typhon

Typhon is a very monstrous and ugly creature. His head reaches the clouds, his two legs are snakes, he has 101 heads; one on top of his neck and 50 going out each arm (in some myths the heads on his arms are snakes) and fire came out of his eyes. Typhon is related to storms, such as Thunderstorms, hurricanes, eartquakes, ect.

Typhon was born from Gaea and Tartarus for only one reason. Gaea was mother of the titans and olympians, and when she saw they were fighting and the olympians had defeated the titans, Gaea became very upset and created the most monstrous creature to attack the leader of the olympians; Zeus. Typhon, being that creature was born with a hate for Zeus. Typhon also beleived that he should rule instead of Zeus, so Typhon attacked Zeus.

Typhon approached Zeus and zeus started firing thunderbolt after thunderbolt at Typhon, never once hurting Typhon. Once Zeus became tired Typhon made his attack. He ripped out all of Zeus's tendons and made his way towards Mt. Olympus. Zeus was laying there helpless when Hermes came and put his tendons back in him and healed him. Then Zeus caught up to Typhon and hurled Mt. Etna on top of Typhon. Typhon is now stuck under Mt. Etna roaring fire out of the active volcano.

But as a challenge for future heroes Zeus let Echidna; Typhons wife and their six children live.

Typhon is often referred to the egyptin god Set. Both Typhon and Set are storm based gods.

Echidna

Typhons wife, also known as the mother of greek monsters, Echidna was half Nymph, half serpent. She was born from Tartarus and Gaia. She represented gross things such as rot, slime, fetid, illness, and disease.

Cerberus

Cerberus is the guard of Hedes. Hedes is also known as the underworld, or Hell. Cerberus is a three headed dog with a serpent as a tail. Very few stories are told of heroes getting past Cerberus. One of the most infamous ones is the story of Hurcules and Cerberes. The story tells of Hercules putting Cerberus into a chokehold, then knocking out Cerberus, then kiddnapping him. Cerberus was later returned to his post where he remains to this day.

Chimera

Chimera is a very odd female. Chimera has the head and body of a Lion, a snake for a tail, and a goat that breathes fire on top of its back. This is the main version of Chimera, some versions are one where there is a head of a goat, lion, and snake sharing a body similar to a lions. Some versions also have wings.

Seeing Chimera is a bad sign. Chimera usually appears right before a disastrous event occurs such as a shipwreck, storm, fire, ect.

Sphinx

The sphinx is a female creature with the body of a lion and the head of a woman. The sphinx would make you solve her riddles or she would eat you.

Hydra

The Hydra is a snake like water creature that was born with 9 heads. For every head that was cut off, two would take its place until it reached 100 heads. The Lernaean Hydra was killed by Hercules. Hydra was also the gaurdian of the underworld.

Ladon

Ladon is the gaurdian of the tree that grows golden apples. He is probably the least interesting of all of the children because he is a simple python. Ladon was also killed by hercules.

Nemean Lion

The Nemean Lion sounds exactly like its name. It simply looks like a lion, but double the size of a normal one and it has an impenetrable hide. The Nemean Lion gets its name from the place in which it lives - Nemea. Hera loved each of the monstrous children, but hated Zeus. So Hera sent the Lion to Nemea where there was a huge shrine dedicated to Zeus. Anyone wanting to visit the shrine would have to get passed an almost indestructible lion. but of course, Hurcules was able to defeat the lion by strangling the lion with his bare hands.
