NON-Discrimination Laws

Once Unpon a Time...

How a bill works: First like anything thats is cause for a change someone has to have a problem and think of a way to solve it.

Second: you have to have people write it up in a bill

Next: it is introduced to what they call the house and that is where people get vote on it.

Then: to the senate to get to the president the bill has to be passed by both the house and the senate they call it "enrolled"

When: it is passsed by both it then goes on to the president.

Finally: The president can do what he wants to do with it. veto snd retuen to congress; or can sign it; or pocket veto it.

Employment discrimination Act was introduced to the 109th congress

Back then people were very uptight and strict over the way their businesses looked and how the people that worked for them represented their companies, this was the cause for many people being discriminated against. This was a problem because people that were willing and able to work could not because of something that their employer did not like about them whether it be their race, religion, sex, or gender.

There is a list of different things that fall under the EDA some of which are :

  • race
  • sex
  • religion
  • disability
  • age
  • pregnancy
  • citizenship
  • nationality

background

I think it very important to know that the non discrimination laws that we have today have gone through a long process of which go back to 1974 and even still being discussed in congress today. There are many different kinds of laws that have been put together to create a set of laws in place to make sure that people are treated equally, and fairly.

Even though there were other laws that protecting people from discrimation for race, religion etc. The bill for the Employment Discrimination law was not introduced until 1994

The fourteenth amendment which was founded on July 9th 1868 has a Equal protction Clause. which provides equal protection for all people, This act is connected to the Brown vs Board of Education during the Civil Rights era.

This bill has many different parts and pieces to it

This now law has been introduced to congress and has continued to be added to over the course of the years to make it better and improve it.

Why people were not for the Employment Discrimination act:

  • some people believed that you should not be paid as much if you are not a citizen
  • some people felt that other people were inferior to them
  • some poeple thought that a man can do a better job then anyone could do
  • employers felt that they did not want to pay everyone the same because they had something against them

There were many reason why people were for the Employment Discrimination acts:

  • Fair
  • equality
  • equal pay
  • human right

Changes

Though it was introduced to the 109th congress they introduced it again to the 110th congres but it was introduced this time including more things such as dress code and more codes, where as in the one they introduced to the 109th congress was more of just sexual orientation.

Today

The bill continues to grow each day with people encountering different things and having more and more experiences with different people in the world they have expanded that bill recently to the dont ask don't tell policy, within the military base.

And this country Lives...

Happily ever after we have set in place today a feeling the everyone should be treated and dealt with eqaually we have people who will stand for this and will fight to have their rights, though this bill is continually being added to and changed it has been working for us so far and and should continue to do so.

Even though there are many different kinds of discrimination laws. The one that I want focus on the most is the Emoployment Discrimination Acts (EDA) being disscussed in congress today.
