The Watsons Go to Birmingham - 1963
Teachers treated Kenny differently from the other kids. As you may see, Kenny is an advanced reader. What this means is that he is a better reader than most of the kids in his class.Tis made him have new enemies because enemies are formed from how small you are or how smart you are. So after being in a presentation in front of the bigger kids, so after he failed during the presentation(reading in front of the class), he actually made enemies.
After the incident of the book, Kenny thinks he had just had a miracle from heaven. In his school, he has a new friend named Rufus, one of the guys that is being picked on. Kenny starts to realize what a real friend is and how a real friend acts thanks to Rufus. This actually changed Kenny's life by realizing what real friendship is.
As Kenny discovers about friendship and life, he also learns how to listen. Like what happend to his brother, Byron. After playing with fire, Byron learns that if you don't listen, you will get punished. That is what Byron told Kenny after her mom almost burned his hand because Byron just couldn't listen. This lesson teached Kenny and Byron a lesson to not disobey.
Kenny starts to notice that his body is changing physicaly because his facial hair is growing. This means that he is not just a little kid, but a pre-teen. This is of course an important event to Kenny because he is finally growing up now!
The Watsons go to Birmingham in 1963 to see if Byron will behave better or worse. This changed their lifes because thay have never been in the south since Byron was born. There are alot of obstacles in the way. From dark, scary roads, to really high mountains.
On the road, the Watsons go to their first rest stop. When Kenny and Byron go to the restroom, they noticed that there is a restroom for black people and another one for white people ONLY. When they go to the black people's restroom, they noticed that the restrooms in the south are much different than in the north. So that teached them how the south looks like, especially for Kenny because it is the first time he ever went to the south.
When Kenny and Joey finally get to Birmingham, they meet their grandmother for the first time. Kenny actually gets impresed because Byron said that their granny was really mean and scary, but it was actually the opposite for Kenny. Kenny also gets to meet his grandma's FRIEND named Robert. He notices that both Robert and grandma Sands (granny) are both nice and kind to all of his family
When Kenny goes to a mystery river, he doesn't realize that he was just one step away from death. At the river, he actually started drowning , that sudenttly, he saw the Wool Pooh, or in other words: death. He wants to give up, but thanks to Byron, he survives and keeps living.
At joey's church, a bomb is dropped by white people to kill the black people. Kenny got scared, so he ran to help joey, but at the end, is actually joey that got scared when she saw Kenny like that, because she actually skipped church to be with Kenny without him even notice her.
Kenny is finally happy to be back in his home with his friends and family. After the whole adventure, he feels calm and grateful to still be alive and to have his family all healthy and whole. After a while he discovers that his parents and even his brother( and of course his sister) love him as much as they can.
After a couple of years, the south became different. Instead of a restroom for black people and another one for the white people they made restrooms to be for both black people and white people. The same happend to all the schools, buses, and even fountains. I think that after this, Kenny and his whole family became happy.
Big applause please!
