Large fans called turbines burn

fuel and air together that make the

engines thrust.

The jet engines push the big planes

forward using streams of hot gas.

It's called action/reaction. The engine

uses fuel and air which pushes

airplanes forward. The engine has

something called a nozzle.

Some jet plane engines

are called gas turbines.

The engine sucks air at the

front with a fan. The compressed air raises the

pressure of the air, also the compressed air

is sprayed with fuel, and blast

out through nozzle at the back of

the engine. That is how a

engine works.

What do these have in common?...

What do rockets and jet planes have in common?

Both rocket and jet planes

function by expelling hot

gases. The plane and rocket

both eject this fuel mass to

gain momentum. They both

burn fuel.

Rockets obviously both have

engines. They don't have propellers

either they run on fuel! They also work

on propulsion. They both can go a long

way.

A jet plane and a rocket have wings, are used for people to fly

in them and have wheels! That

is what a jet plane and a rocket have

in common.

How high can a manned plane fly?

The plane called Wightnight can

fly between 15,200 and 50,000 ft high with

a man in the plane. A civilian passenger jet can fly between 30,000 and 39,000 ft high. A small

plane can fly 2000 ft high. Propeller planes

fly to 20,000 ft high.If a plane flies as high as

49,000 ft with passengers on board they will all need an oxygen mask on!

So that is how high a manned plane can fly.
