Emergen-see!

By Abby, Ana, Samyuktha, and Tawana

Our Proposal

Trachoma

Trachoma is a disease that affects the eye.

Eventually it causes partial or complete blindness.

Emergen-see is our idea to help blinded women feel more secure in going out to do business. Our technology is a bracelet with a button to click in case of emergency.

Who it Affects

Middle aged women and children are most susceptible to Trachoma. Seventy-five percent of people blinded by Trachoma are women. This decreases womens standing in society even more as it decreases their ability to help the community.

Conclusion

Most common in East Africa

Tech Details

The bracelet will be plastic based with a simple two button system.

One button alerts the connected phone, and the other cancels the alert.

Our tech is made to help the women who are affected by Trachoma be more safe and self sufficient. In the future it would include a more advanced idea involving noise and a GPS.

Problem Statement

Disability-adjusted life year for trachoma per 100,000 inhabitants in 2004.

Women who are blinded by Trachoma often can not

contribute to society like they could before. This can even lead to families abandoning blinded women as they are a burden. It is dangerous for a blinded women to be out and about. Making them feel safer would lead to more self-sufficiency, increasing a communities ability to be functional.
