The front cover

Masthead

Big and catchy, something that people will remember if they say it in the shops. I have also used a name that has musical connotations, which I believed was important for this particular genre of magazine.

Bold Colors

The colours are bright, and there are too many, therefore creating a house style. Red is also a common colour from womens magazine... and it is something that they look for.

Image

The image relates to the adience, she is wearing clothes that you would normally associate with the Working class, and is large enough for everyone to see. She is also looking out to the audience, and therefore she fits into Ferguson's theory (1980) and therefore people will buy the magazine and espire to be her. "Invitational: emphasis on the eyes, mouth shut or with only a hint of a smile, head to one side or looking back to camera. Projected mood: suggestive of mischief or mystery, the hint of contact potential rather than sexual promise, the cover equivalent of advertising’s soft sell"

Also, Trevor Millum suggests that, "Kittenlike: coy, naïve (perhaps in a deliberate, studied way), a friendlier and more girlish version of the cool/level look, sometimes almost twee." (Millum 1975, 97-8)

Naomi wolf’s (1991) The Beauty Myth describes which describes how erotic images of women have been used to sell products such as magazines to women because women believe beauty is what society has told us it is. I have done this by positioning my model in a particular way so that she looks the age of my target audience. My does portray a strong female and the image itself allows her to look seductive.

Selling line

The bands mentioned might be another one of the pull factors for the cover to pull in a potential audience.

My contents page

Website use

The use of the website allows the readers to know that there is an online version, which is easier for the potential audience to prehaps use, this is because we are the generation in which we use the internet for our sources of information.

Columns

This allows for my contents page stay neat and tidy for people to read. It is also one of the typical conventions used in a magazine.

Images

I have used multiple images, this way my audience knows more about the articles in my magazine... they are all page referenced, and therefore people know which page to turn to.

The Competitions

The competition factor involves the readers more in the magazine, as this is something that many people use throughout. People will be drawn in to take part as they know that there is a chance of winning.

The feature article

Images

I have used two images, which are clear and show different sides to my model's charater... which my audience will be able to relate to. They are both easy to see and they both stand out to catch the readers attention.

Background colour

The background colour attracts to the audience as this is the colour that I got from my research. Also it keeps the magazine in with the house style.

Page Numbers

The use of the page numbers relate to the audience as they know where they are looking to, and know if they are on the right page or not. They corrospond with those on my contents page.
