Walker, The Witch, and the
Striped Flying Saucer
This was James Stevenson's first book to write and illustrate by himself. He had previously illustrated a book but it was written by his son (who was 8 years old at the time).
James Stevenson has created over 100 children's books. However there is not very much information on his history. According to one source you might be able to make some inferences about his age by looking at one of his books "When I was Nine". On the back of the book we can see him sitting on a fence with his mother. It was taken in Cliff, New Mexico in 1939.
His illustrations appear in the New Yorker Magazine on a regular basis. His comic book style of drawing is very recognizable. The Reading Rainbow television show has featured his books including "What's Under My Bed".
Awards
