The image puts across the devil may care attitude of metal artists and readers may relate to this. It is a strong image and the shot type makes the image feel like it is important. The image gives direct mode of address to make the reader feel involved. It also dominates the page.
The coverlines do not reveal too much about the articles inside. They are eye catching and the sublines make the reader want to find out more. The main coverline is the largest to draw the readers attention, it also goes with the main image.
A simple colour scheme is used, which invokes the metal genre, it does this because the colours are dark and they the title is the colour of metal, hence Mercury .The colours make the magazine easy to look at because the contrast with each other.
The banner at the bottom shows what is inside the magazine which makes the reader want to find out about the bands that are mentioned. The buzz word PLUS is used to grab reader attention and make them feel that they are getting extra for their money.
