Then and Now
Background Info
Levi Roots, was born in jamaica in 1958. he has grown to be a singer, a songwriter a chef and a multi-millionaire businessman. he now lives in the uk, in brixton, south london and has five children. he owns a small take-away restaurant in london's battersea that sells jamacian food, called papine jerk centre.
Singing his way to sucess, In 2006, levi appeared on the bbc show known as dragons' den. he was hoping to get an investment of fifty thousand pounds for a twenty percent stake in his product called "Reggae Reggae Sauce". this was a jamacian style bbq/jerk sauce, made from a secret recepie passed down by his grandmother.
three of the dragons rejected levi's proposal and two remained, richard farleigh and peter jones, who both seemed rather enticed by the product. After collaborating levi agreed to take on both of the two remaining dragons but at a compromise of losing 40 percent of his equity than the twenty that he had originally hoped for
after the dragons' invested in levi's product, they had an exclusive deal with sainsburys to sell this new table sauce. sainsburys had estimated that within a year they would sell 50,000 bottles of this sauce, and this is how much they actually sold...
150,000 bottles of reggae reggae sauce in the first day!!!
recently, he has launched a cookbook, called "the reggae reggae cookbook".
the exclusivity with sainsburys has now expired and his sauce is now selling in Tesco's, Sainsburys, Asda, and morisson's nationwide.
And to this day the dragon slayer continues...
