How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My music magazine is representative of young adults. Firstly because the main image on the front cover is of a teenager therefore attracting people of similar since and older person wouldn’t be interested on reading about people younger than them. Shannon is also wearing a denim shirt, which is in fashion for teenagers since many popular artists are wearing them such as Ellie Goulding and the Arctic Monkeys.
Secondly, my magazine is affordable at £3 which will attract more young people since many are unemployed so they don’t want to spend much money. Also the magazine wouldn’t be very many pages long because young people wouldn’t want to have to read a lot of writing.
Popular Indie artists wearing denim jackets will influence young people on their fashion choices as they want to look like their idols.
I also looked at some reader profiles to help me understand what audience appeals to Indie magazines.
I found this social class system online and I think the working class is the class in which I aim my magazine at because it appeals to the majority of the general public and especially my genre (indie) since many readers of indie magazines are young, unemployed or students so the price is affordable.
Here I found that the 71% of readers said that it is important for them to look well dressed which is why I chose an outfit that was reflective of indie fashion for Shannon to wear on the front cover so that the readers can take inspiration from their favorite artists or bands. I also found that 69% of readers are male which helped me in choosing the appropriate color scheme for my music magazine which is red, black and white since it will appeal to the majority of the audience.
I think my magazine represents ‘Indie’ people who listen to Indie music and live the Indie lifestyle because the content of my magazine is based on Indie artists such as the ‘Arctic Monkeys and The Smiths’, which will attract the correct audience, as they won’t want to read about rock or pop bands.
