Newtons Laws of Motion

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass

Other Scientists

Many scientists encouraged Newton's work. However it is a scientist's job to try to disprove theories of other scientists.

Robert Hooke

Robert Hooke was a constant rival to Newton. He attempted to disprove and degrade both Principia and Newton's Optics Experiment.

Gottfried Leibniz

A german mathmatician who accused Newton of plagarizing his work on infinitesimals, a concept Newton discussed in Principia. Newton however was head of the society tasked to investingating thisaccusation, so Newton was not degraded.

Professional Achievements

Publication of "Principia"

In 1687, Newton published Principia. A complied writing of almost all the many essential concepts of physics. He included three laws of motion that explain interplanetary movements and orbit.

Theory of Gravity

It is told that Newton came up with the theory of gravity when an apple fell from a tree in his garden. He said that every mass attracts every other mass in the universe.

Study of Optics

Newton believed that white light was a composite of all the rainbows colors, and that light was made of particles. He designed a reflecting telescope that he woulod eventually demonstrate at the Royal Society. He eventually published Newton's Opticks: A treatise of the reflections, refractions, Inflections, and Colours of Light.
