The spine

The spine conventionally has the same colour scheme and font sizes as the front cover, but the font is more eye catching in order to grab the buyers attention

The inside panels

The Back cover

Conventionally the inside panels contain more images of the band or significant original artwork as well as song lyrics, and often tour information and the band's back catalogue.

Again a basic colour scheme of no more than 3 colours, but crucially the colour of the track listing's font stands out against the background which is usually black. Other than that conventions are the logos of the record label and often the band as well as a barcode and copyright information. A good example is Queen Greatest hits 2

An example of a digipak that doesn't follow these conventions is One wild night by Bon Jovi as the colour scheme involves more than three colours and the track list doesn't stand out as much due to an image of the band.

A good example is permission to land by The Darkness. However there is no back catalogue information as this was a debut album

Front cover

If there is an image of the band then conventionally it's in the centre of the cover and the band members have a strong positive, confident body language. This convention is especially true with solo artists, Chris Cornell you know my name for example

The band's name is in the largest font with the album's name being smaller. The colour scheme usually involves no more than three colours. The main image of the cover is conventionally an image of the band or a piece of orginal artwork that's relevant to either the band or the specific album.

A good example of this is the front cover for American idiot by Green Day. This is conventional as the fonts and colour scheme fits and the image not only appeared in the video to American idiot but also on the drum kit for that subsequent tour showing how significant it was to the band.

Generic conventions of a rock digipak.
