The Holocaust - Continued

  • Germans learn about the Holocaust in many of their classes: They learn about the history of it in history class. They learn about National Socialist literature in German class (their version of our English class). They discuss the religious aspects of it in religion class. Finally, they learn about banned art in art class.
  • Examination: Germans are not only expected to recall the events that happened during the Holocaust when they take tests over it. They also have to answer short answer questions or essay questions that cause the students to think critically about different events.

Stadtroda

Our school is located in Stadtroda. Stadtroda (known as Roda until 1925) is a town of 6,041 people (2011). The town was first mentioned in 1210.

The Holocaust - What German students learn about it

Our School - Fachschule für Agrarwirtschaft

92 years old

We are an agricultural college. Our students learn about farming.

We are the biggest and really the only farming school in Thuringia.

Students go to school here for 4 years.

  • German students also learn about how terrible the Holocaust was.
  • They read about the events of the Holocaust in textbooks and watch videos on it, going through the events chronologically.
  • They discuss the events and think about them critically. For example, they discuss what might lead someone to join the Nazi party.

Germany is made up of 16 federal states. Our school is in Thüringen (known as Thuringia in English).
