Active Learning- What's it all about?
Children work harder than their teachers... Adults facilitate and intervene only when natural learning requires steering.
like an active volcano, always in a state of constant flux. Sometimes its going on under the surface, sometimes exploding out the top
Active learning = Taking responsibility for finding out the things you need to know to live a richer life
active learning takes place when students are able to explain what they have learned on paper and verbally
my initial thoughts that they had to be doing something now feel it is more that the children are involved in the learning
learning that young people are actively engaged in - but that doesn't always mean moving about!
children actively engaged in their work. Can be games but also can just be sitting making a poster etc the key bit is that they are actively engaged in THEIR learning and want to be doing it
Get through the content!!!!
a) Let the learner choose. Give the assessment criteria (what they need
to know) and let them decide how they will show evidence of understanding
b) Take away the comfort zone. Give the assessment criteria, but take away
the routine ways of demonstrating knowledge. A less familiar presentation may
require deeper understanding of the content
