Willie o' Ree was born on October 15 1935 in Fredericton,new, Brunswick, Canada. he started playing organized hockey when he was 5.
But in 1996 willie o' ree returned to the NHL to become the director of the leagues diversity program. when willie o' Ree was alive he really missed playing hockey but as long as he was still part of hockey he was as happy as he could of been happy.
Willie O' Ree was considered as a pioneer because he was the first black person to be in the NHL but according to him he is not a pioneer he would rather you think of him as another NHL player. when willie got older he started playing in more competitive hockey. he would play for the the Kitchener canucks of the Ontario hockey association in the 1955- 56 season. he also signed Quebec aces in the season of 1956-57 witch was the start of a three decade professional career .
willie oree quit hockey in 1979 because he got an eye injury that costed him his carrer he was practicing and he got a puck to the eye and it made him 97 present blind.
I THINK WILLIE OREE PUSHED HIM SELF TO BE A SUCCESFUL MAN. HE NEVER QUIT WHAT HE LOVED. WHEN HE GOT THE EYE INJURY INSTEAD OF JUST QUITING HE BECAME THE SPOKES PERSON OF HOCKEY.
