Group 4 - Demonstration

Strategies

Our Course's

Application Process

Throughout each individual class and the entire five-week course as a whole, we seek to use the learning process/cycle in its entirety. This allows the learner to learn skills in how to participate in classes, apply meaning, take action, and reflect on the learning.

This allows us to teach the learning process while utilizing the learning process, furthering the effectiveness of our approach

Part way through the course, as individuals learn more about themselves as learners, they are able to put each step of the learning process into action through discussion of material, writing summaries to reflect their own meaning, visualizing their understanding through diagrams, and reflecting with weekly journals.

Our Course's Application Process

Skills Learned

  • Each week's readings, assignments, and class discussions focus on a different stage of the learning process.
  • Classes are built around class discussion that forces the learner to evaluate the material they interact with and make their own meaning.
  • Organization in tasking group members with their roles and following through as well as maintaining a structured and understandable syllabus design
  • Research skills in finding information for a broad topic and finding ways to apply this research to a working course
  • Professional skills in presenting material, citing research, and objectively analyzing the learning process

Knowledge Learned

Tools and Resources

Throughout the process of this project and our practice demonstration, we learned that the completion of the learning process is essential for individuals to continue progressing through the learning experience.

We noted the especial effectiveness of the reflection as the pivot point to moving onto further learning.

It can be difficult to motivate conversation in courses with more open and broad material

  • Consistent reflection exercises to improve retention and meaning-making
  • Use of multimedia (textbook, articles, diagrams, youtube videos, etc. to fit individual needs
  • In-Class participation to boost user participation and investment
