CCCSAA Student Leadership
Post-Conference Presentation by Maggie Lozano
1 New Initiative for ASCC
What I Will Incorporate in My Work With ASCC
- I would like to demonstrate that having fun and professionalism are not exclusive from one another. We may not always have control over unexpected challenges. We do however, have control over our attitudes and how we manage unexpected events. CCCSAA is one of the many examples that demonstrates how our Student Life team can effectively manage changes collectively.
- Proactively search for ways to better support the Student Life and Leadership Manager and Student Senate.
- Look for opportunities to present student leadership workshops to ASCC members and Student Life interns.
Top 3 Takeaways
What I Accomplished in CCCSAA
- Support Misha Maggi, who chaired CCCSAA, in miscellaneous duties including but not limited to:
- Proofreading conference pamphlet
- Researching different DJ quotes and presenting options to the conference committee
- Taking pictures throughout the conference dates
- Presenting 3 workshops on topics of student leadership
1. The Show Must Go On! During my third presentation I struggled with technical difficulties and wasn't able to show my presentation. In the future, I would like to master the art of troubleshooting technical challenges.
2. Ask to be more involved: I believe I am capable of supporting the Student Life & Leadership Manager in more areas. Proactively look for ways to better support Misha and students who participate in conferences.
3. New friendships/ professional networks: I truly enjoyed connecting with other advisors. I look forward to being involved with the CCCSAA planning committee for next year.
Lessons Learned from Conference
- Research all the facts before negotiating: As the middle person between potential DJ contracts and the conference committee, I realized both parties had several questions for each other I hadn't considered asking beforehand.
- Take advantage of the opportunity to network with professionals across the state as well as learn more about the students I advise. Connecting with professionals who understand the challenges of our career is affirming and validating to my professional growth. Likewise, better understanding students I help advise challenges me to reflect on ways I can better support them.
