Believe, Belong, Become

Choice and Growth as a Christian

The Day of the Sunday School

Christmas Program (age 7)

I saw men/adults choosing to take time to contribute - to help the Christmas program to be a success and make the program meaningful.

This presentation is about Choice

Before continuing with my reflections,

I'd like to look at the choices Jesus made

during his Temptation in the Wilderness.

Three Temptations

God chooses to give each of us free-will.

We choose to believe and act or to not believe.

It's actually better that way.

God wants to be in relationship with each of us.

First Great Commandment is to Love God - be

in relationship, by choice.

My First Youth Group Experience,

upon moving to Milwaukee (age 16)

I did go through a period, during college,

when I was not active in a church and my

faith waned.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good

college-age group to help me grow my faith.

As a young teacher/coach I started going

to Cairo United Methodist Church

I've Learned:

  • It starts with Belief in Jesus
  • Belief in Jesus trumps the Bible. That is,

I believe in Jesus first and I believe in the

Bible because is it the message of Jesus.

  • Being a member of a community of believers

trumps religion. Being a member of a church is

more important than the rules and guidelines

of that church.

  • There is head knowledge and there is

heart knowledge. Both are important for

becoming a Christian and growing in faith.

  • We live our faith by serving others.

Second Great Commandment is to Love the People Around Us.

We need to choose to be in service.

It's a lot easier as part of a church.

Remember Jenna Kelso's words last Sunday, how she grew to

enjoy serving.

I've Seen the Holy Spirit work in

some really neat ways.

The Holy Spirit delivered when we needed it!

I learned that TRUST is key.

Trust in God and those I'm working with.

....to get Trust you need Relationships

....to get Relationships you need Communication.

I've Learned:

  • Happy people are the thankful people.

Thankful for God's many blessings.

My Wish for You

Choose to:

1. Contribute to the success of the group’s activity.

2. Make new people feel welcome at youth group.

3. Believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

4. Belong to a church – a community of Believers.

5. Become a growing Christian.

6. Serve those in our world who need it.

7. Count on the Holy Spirit for guidance and help.

8. Build Trust and build Relationships.

9. Communicate.

10. Be thankful. It will make you happy.

We got the Kitchen!

I was on the Building Committee

here at Wesley Church.

We were undecided & divided.

Through prayer, the Holy Spirit

brought us to consensus.

On Mission Trip to Dulac/Houma, LA

I saw adults choosing to work together and give their time so that we could have a good youth group.

I saw youth and adults choosing

to make a new person feel welcome at Youth Group.

Have control of, and rule over, the Earth and it's people

Have a spectacular show of God's Power (win the people over with impressive fireworks)

End his, and World, hunger

We needed to

haul a huge

amount of

wood & supplies

At the church I joined my first (men's)

Bible Study.

At the church was the 6'5" band director from the HS,

a 5'9" Pastor, who was a great pastor,

and a knowledgeable banker.
