Stars are commodities produced and consumed on the strengths of their meanings.
The Two Paradoxes
Dyer believed that there are two paradoxes that made star images.
Dyer says that stars must be ordinary and extraordinary and the same time. He also says that stars must be absent and present at the same time.
Absent: Relationship between stars and fans is largely mediated. There is no personal contact, therefore it isn't reciprocal. The audience cannot control the flow of media released.
Present: Knowing about the stars personal life. Direct address between the star and fans.
We can tell a lot about an artist from the camera shot types used in music videos, what their album covers are like. The same can be said for posters that are produced.
The audience strives to close the gap between themselves and the artist, which is done through social media sites such as twitter. When Beyonce released the news that she was pregnant, there was an average of 8,000 'tweets' a second.
Star Image
The star image embodies a set of meanings and values which attracts the audience to buy a talents product. Whether it be merchandise, a digital track, posters or a CD Album.

Richard Dyer
Dyer believes that 'stars' in our world of media are constructed, not by their physical appearance, but by their videos, lyrics, tours, magazines, artwork and stage performances.
