  • To illustrate a very real issue threatening the oceans
  • To "put a magnifying glass," so to speak, on an aspect of modern culture, that is, the disposable mentality
  • To make people take a second glance

"There's a museum on Meridian that has the prettiest stained glass windows. One of them, the most striking, has the image of a woman and a child. They're in the middle of the glass, surrounded by colours like jewels, and when you first look at it, the whole thing is so beautiful you could cry.

But then you look at it again, and you see a horrible monster on the edges, ready to devour the two. And after you see the monster, you can never look at it properly again. You'll look for the beauty, and it'll be there, but so will the monster."

- Meridian: Flying Solo, vol. 1
