Pearl Harbor

Basics

The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in the hopes of crushing the USA's pacific fleet in one move.

Why attack?

At the time of the attack the USA was in a full embargo with Japan and the Lend- Lease act was in full swing. So in short the US was helping the allies and avoiding the axis.

Loses on both sides

The loses were very one sided with the USA losing 4 Battleships, 3 Cruisers, 188 Aircraft, and 2400 men.

The Japaneses only lost 29 Aircraft, 64 men, and 4 midget subs.

Consequences of this attack

Because of this attack the USA entered World War II and the Japanese lost all the land and islands they had taken during the 30s and 40s.

A Japanese commander even said after the attack, "We have just woke the sleeping gaint".
