How a student feels, behaves, and performs is influenced by the teacher's expectations of students and the overall environment of the classroom. Clear expectations of students must be put into place from the start. It is important to be consistent in enforcing the classroom rules, which students should come up with together as a group with the teacher's support. I am a firm believer that positive student behaviors should be commended just as often as (if not more than) negative student behaviors are addressed/scolded.
In order to receive respect from students, you must first give them the opportunity to earn yours.
I believe that in order to keep students on task, you must find ways to engage them during lessons through a variety of activities and teaching strategies that address their specific learning styles.
Why should you hire me?
CREDENTIALS
Working with children has always been the most rewarding aspect of my life. I have a passion for it and I know I have the patience, creativity, sense of humor, and relentless attitude it takes to push kids to do their very best. I always give 100% and expect my students to do the same. My background in Child Development, along with many years of experience working with kids, has given me a great understanding of how to nourish the developing mind of a child both academically and emotionally. Kids can always tell whether or not a teacher believes in them. I believe every child has the ability to succeed if given the right support, and it's my job to show them that this is true.

MY PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."
~Albert Einstein
Learning is more memorable for students when they are given the necessary guidance and tools in order to build off of prior knowledge and construct their own learning through hands-on, real-world applications. Students should learn from an early age to take risks and make mistakes. They should be encouraged to think critically and challenge the ideas of others. Students and their individual differences should be celebrated. Respect in the classroom and an open and positive teacher/student relationship are vital to successful learning. Students should not be conditioned to ask themselves, “How smart am I?” but instead ask, “How am I smart?” High standards should be set for every child. Students should be encouraged to be creative and the arts should be a part of the everyday classroom environment. A loud classroom is a productive one.

Transcript
Students should be given descriptive feedback more often than evaluative feedback and teachers must take the initiative to recognize where and when student learning is ready to be evaluated. Summative assessment should happen after students have had plenty of practice and teachers have given a variety of informal, formative assessments. Assessments should also incorporate different levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.
If the teacher caters a to a variety of student learning styles and provides students with an assortment of activities, it gives every student the opportunity to shine in their strongest area of interest and competence.
Teachers should have a variety of representations for the content being taught, and use different resources throughout each unit. Using textbooks as the only resource can hinder student learning because the content is confined to one model.
I am a firm believer in student self-assessment. Self-assessment gives students the opportunity to become actively aware of their of their own learning which helps them to take initiative to progress toward goals set by themselves and their teacher.

"No one has yet fully
realized the wealth of sympathy, kindness and generosity hidden in the soul of a child. The effort of every true education should be to unlock that treasure."
