For the research section of our coursework producation
we used the internet a lot. It allowed us all to sepereatly
and as a group work on aspects of the investigation in to
various other short films; for example, Mixtape, King Ponce,
Strangers and Signs which have influenced because of the
different shots, styles of filming and editing that has occured
during the film.
We also used books from the college library, and AQA media AS & A2
text book to help us with gaining marks and making the most out
of our coursework piece.
As a group we split up the work and allocated each member to complete
certian tasks based on what they preferred to do and their strengths
and weaknesses in media.
We, as a group, chose these images to look at
because they were a variety of close ups, medium long shots and establishing/long shots. We ourselves wanted to include a variation of shots and try out different ideas that would make our film more interesting.
We did this and found that the simpler the shots were, the more effective they seemed to be. We also experiemnted with doing the filming at different times of the day and found that for our first section of filming, we will film during the evening when there is little light outside. We thought this would give a better idea of 'Scott' feeling isolated.
These short films helped us with constructing and producing our
media film as it helped us establish which shots we liked, where
and when we wanted to film (time scale) and which gender the
characters were going to be. This we knew, would help us to produce
a successful piece of filming and also, intertwine the poster and review along with it as well.
During the planning of our film, we created an animatic using an Sony HD camera because we wanted our film to be the best possible qualtiy. The animatic we drew out and would of been awkward to carry about however; we managed to upload the video onto our blog and use it whilst filming. This helped when trying to remember which shots went where and time scales of each shots.
These are two examples from our animatic, we put explained the time frames and what would happen in each shot therefore it allowed us to easily refer to it whenever we needed to do so.
This is the full video of our animatic complete with sound. We decided to make it on post it notes as it allowed us to move shots and edit sections of a shot that we were not pleased with, much easier.
For our planning, we also decided to plan what our poster was going to look like. By taking many sample images and still shots whilst we were filming this helped when choosing a final image for the poster itself.
We used the HD Sony camera to do this and also a Canon 450D to take images of the fish as we needed a good quality camera because they kept blurring on the HD camera.
These images are all examples of ones we wanted to use as poster ideas.
We all liked them because they had good framing and were interesting, it allowed an audience to presume what may happen in the film and why.
As a group we narrowed the images down to this and one other. Eve did photography and knew how to use Adobe Photoshop fairly easily, so using various tools; she managed to edit the colour out of the image and keep only the clock in colour and focus. Therefore making it the focal point in the image.
This is our final image that we decided on as a group and with our teacher as we liked the idea of the title being 'No Fishing'.
We edited the background on Adobe Photoshop to make it less bright however; we like the way the colours of the fish contrast to that of the clothing and curtin in the background, therefore making them stand out much better.
This is the final design for our poster. We used InDesign to complete the writing and various logo's that we have put on the poster itself.
I really like this poster, I think having the title of the film as 'No Fishing' it makes the audience look closer at the poster and hopefully, be more interested by it.
During the construction and evaluation stages, this was when we used the majority of the equipment. HD camera's, LED lighting, a Velbon tripod which aided us a lot because of us wanting to shoot odd angled shots and keep the camera as steady as possibly throughout this. We also used a microphone with the Sony HD camera, we found this particually useful in various scenes when speech was quieter.
These are all examples of the types of technology that we used during the construction of media film, poster and review.
All of these devices greatly helped us whilst we were completing the process of making our film. When we finished filming yet had not started to edit (add any sound or majorly cut any of our footage) we created a 'raw footage' film that we could get feedback on and improve.

By putting the video on Facbook it allowed friends of ours and other media students to comment on the footage and see what their opinions were. Whether we needed to change any of the ideas, if any of the shots could be done differently and also any general feedback on how our target audience liked the film.
For example, this was a really encouraging comment
and it helped with our confidence to produce a good
quality media film.
However; we would of liked to have more critical
feedback which would of allowed us to work more on
aspects of the film that did not work so well in the
film.
After looking at all of the feedback and advice we had recieved we decided to make several changes to our film, for example the ending, where we filmed certian aspects of the film and lastly what style/type music we were going to use during the film.
We went on to edit a lot of our footage in Final Cut Pro which is an easy to use, simple movie editing software which allowed us to do it fairly quickly and without too many dissruptions.
The clear way that Final Cut Pro is set out allows the user to easily cut, move and edit sections and clips of a film to a desired destination easily. As a group we all enjoyed working with the program as at the end, it gave us a well put together film.
I have inserted a version of our film without sound into Prezi below, we have fully cut and edited it including adding the titles and changes between each scene and shot.
After using Final Cut Pro, our group moved on to Garageband. A program that Apple provide on Macbooks and their computers that allows users to create music and sound effects then add them in to their film.
Whilst working on our film's music in Garageband, we decided to use the music only version of Adele's track ''Somebody Like You''. After looking for the kareoke version on Youtube, we managed to convert this and upload it in to Garageband and use it in the beginning of our film which we all really liked and thought it set the scene really well.
The rest of our music was created on Garageband using various instuments and putting them together to create a melody that went well with the music
How did you use media technologies in the construction, and research, planning and evaluation stages?
For our evaluation process, we decided to do this in a more
'hands on way' rather then simply writing our evaluation's up in essay form, we decided to use the advantage of techonology and again use the HD cameras to film ourselves analysing and reviewing the posters and our own film.
This is our final version of the commentry of us speaking about the poster. We used the HD camera to do this and I think it worked really well because it gave our own opinions on each section of the poster and what we liked and disliked about it as well.
This link will take you to our raw footage.
