In my opinion for some reason the video gives off a ‘Frankenstein’ sort of symbolism as the electric bolts and shimmers of the main persons face reveals different expressions and builds up a dangerous and powerful atmosphere. The lead singer can be clearly pointed out due to in the long shots of the whole band together we see that they are staggered in a diagonal line, letting the audience see all three of them but the audiences focus is still set on the main signer. The most common cameras shots seen in the video are long, mid-long and mid shots which help to reveal the location, the use of lighting and shows the body language of the band members as it’s a powerful song the body language has been purposefully used to almost show passion for what is being sung. These shots are also accompanied by close ups allows the audience to focus more on the singer himself and the low angles of the silhouette of the guitarist adds a mysterious element to the video as we can’t actually see the person. Slow tracks are used to keep the audience attached to the singer and the words themselves. For instance right at the start there is a slow track in which for me, immediately hooked me in and made me want to continue to watch. Crabs are used in both directions (left and right) as it makes the audience feel as though they are watching this person, they are the ones he is singing too and they are part of the piece.

Many of Horror (When We Collide)

Lighting

The lighting used throughout this video is low key with the use of back lighting to show the silhouettes of the band members, restricting our view of them. The use of the lightening, electric effect which lights up the front of them allows the audience to see. In some of the shots where it is just the main singer a low angled spot light is used to give the effect of an evil, mysterious mood. The use of the low angled spot reminds me of that which people use when they tell scary stories, so taking this into consideration it’s as though he’s telling a story which could link with the title ‘Many of Horror’.

Editing

The cuts that are used in the video match the pace and beat of the song so it makes them less noticeable to the audience and it really helps to contribute to actually building an atmosphere up throughout the video. The visual effects that are used on the main singers face creates a really interesting effect as it almost injects a thought that by him singing what he’s singing about its painful for him, this we see in the quick flash of other facial expressions seen; also visual effects are used to create the electric bolt.

Location

Costume

The location seen in the video reminds me of an underground facility due to all the dials seen across the walls and the long length of the walls that can be seen. This could have been chosen as it establishes an experimental type of mood which interests and entices the viewers to watch the rest of the video.

Formal wear is seen in the video as the band only stay in the same clothing throughout. The lead singer is clearly identified as it appears that he’s wearing a blazer, the guitarist is wearing a white shirt with a waistcoat and the drummer is wearing a black blazer with a black shirt. By the band wearing formal clothing it gives the intention that it is a song/ video to be taken seriously.
