Survey Monkey Results for Music Magazine Initial Ideas
The most popular response showed that people usually pay £2 to £3 on a music magazine, therefore I will add a price between that range on my magazine cover.
The respondents showed they would like to see upcoming concert/festival information, top ranking songs/albums, information about new music and artists, artist and band specific pages and interviews as the 5 most popular responses for the content of my music magazine. Other popular responses included free posters, merchandise information and photographs from live shows. I will include as many of these as possible in my magazine.
90% of my responses showed they would like to see a mid-shot of the band/artist on my front cover using direct address. I will ensure I do this as direct address often bonds the artist to the reader and encourages them to look and read the magazine.
These results show that people would like to see an even mix of text and images on the front cover and double page spread of my magazine, but prefer more text on a contents page as they are more informative.
The majority of results showed that people prefer a colour scheme of black, white and red for my genre of music magazine. I will use this colour scheme because it was a popular answer and it fits in with conventional colour schemes of this type of magazine.
The largest response for my genre of music magazine was Indie Rock because the colours stand out more, it is a specific genre and people like both Rock and Indie music so it would appeal to a wider audience. Other responses were that people are more likely to recognise these types of bands which would be beneficial to my magazine.
Respondents showed they would like to see the magazine published every month so I will make it a monthly magazine.
Responses for this question showed that I should include no more than 5 people on the front cover unless it is a solo band/artist. From this I will make sure I only include the relevant people who are in the featured music group even if it means they are a solo artist.
These results show that the mode response for my magazine title should be ‘Voltage’. One result stated ‘Voltage expresses the theme of music and it is also unique as I have never heard of a magazine like this, though it is similar to rocksound magazine but is still different.’ ‘sounds electric and you expect like electric guitar/ electric kind of sounds in this genre’
The second highest preference was ‘Hysteria’ because ‘has connotations of wild excitement, which suggests the magazine will be exciting too!’
Everyone preferred buying the magazine in store rather than electronically so I won’t make adding access to an online copy a priority when constructing my music magazine.
