Our main task was to produce a short piece of film in which contains the following continuinity action:

  • A character opens a door
  • Walks across a room
  • Sits down in a chair opposite of another character
  • Exchanges two sentences of conversation which will become dramatic in the end.
  • It should show the character in their everyday situation.

Representation must be achieved by a range of elements:

  • Apperance
  • Costume
  • Performance
  • Location
  • Dialogue
  • Lighting
  • Props
  • Music
  • Voiceover

When we began filming our Preliminary Task I have learnt shooting a variety of Camera Angles such as Over The Shoulder Shot and Shot-Reverse-Shot. When we began filming we began learning about the 180 degree rule and how the people in the scene should have the same left-right position. When we filmed the Preliminary Task (you can find some information from the Preliminary Task label), it took us a few times to get the shot-reverse-shot right and the result is the video above.

Preliminary Task

The video above shows the preliminary task we created at the beginning of the academic year. When I started Sixth Form, I used to always work alone and barely worked in groups. Since we started working in a group the workload became smaller but the actual quality of the work became better. When we started, we only had a little knowledge about media and camera angles and the preliminary task was our starting point, everything was new and we're still picking up a lot of knowledge in such a short span of time.

Every aspect that I have done in doing the Preliminary Task (Planning - Storyboards, Use of Camera Angles) has helped me gained knowledge on how I should prepare my Thriller Opening.
