I believe that our media piece would be distributed by the BFI. This is because during the 1960's the British Society was more well known for the music and the style compared to the American society at that time. The main influence of our piece was from the film 'The Boat That Rocked', which is a British film. I believe the reason is because it's set during the 60s and based around the pirate radio station, Radio Carolina, using stereotypical swinging sixties characters. This film is also written by Richard Curtis. Using this film as an influence, I believe that our media piece would be a British film rather than being compared to an American distributed film. Noticing how this would be more noticeable, was by using well known British rock music of that time and emphasising the British swinging sixties lifestyle.
The media product would be certified with an age of 15+. The reason we made this certification is because in the film there would be swearing, drug use and sexual content. Our product does include dark comedy and emphasises the 60's culture which would draw audiences in which remember or are interested and enjoy the swinging sixties music and social culture. If we had the opportunity of carrying on with this media product to become a full length film, we would show the stereotypical youngsters of today and show how they react to a teacher which believed they were from the 1960's and how they would ridicul him.
Audiences which enjoyed the swinging sixties would enjoy how we have made the product an over the top version of how we represented our characters to be fuelled by sex, drugs and rock n roll. Another way we decided the certification
I believe that the experience from the preliminary task helped me understand how I could achieve better in the main production task. I noticed that I understood and worked better with the concept ideas for the task. This is because, what I believe, I was working in a duo instead of working in a group of three. This is because, the work load was split in half, which in turn, made the task easier. By doing this, there wasn't any disorganisation issues and agreeing on different values for the film was easy and quick. Also, with working as a duo, no one could be left out or let the rest of the group do the work. With this experience, I also feel that I have learnt much more than I did compared to my preliminary task and felt that my opinions and views have been included within the piece.
When we had finished producing our film, me and Sam thought of producing a poster for our film. We both had the same concept idea, but decided to both create our own. The reason for this is that, we had different ideas on how the poster would attract the audience by using colour, spacing and background for example. With my poster, I have created a bold poster with just the film title, the actor and the slogon of the film. We both used the photograph, because we believe that just from thus photo, it portrays what the charcter is like - a bold, confident character.
We attracted the audience by having our opening shot of a vinyl being played and the start of a well known 60s song - 'Street Fighting Man' by the Rolling Stones. We believed using this shot would attract the audience's attention. The next shot shows the audience two frames of different actions being taken place, one of the shots is the main character dancing to the music in his underwear. By using this shot, the audience straight away get the sense that this film with have a comedic slant to it. The other frame has a shot of some mise-en-scene which are related to the character, the vinyl rotating with a packet of Rizla's, this gives the audience a hint of what the characteristics are with the character. Another shot later on in the media piece, is the main character taking cocaine. By using this, the audience now have a sense of what the film will be about. Earlier on in the sequence, we also see a woman in bed half naked. All these shots give the audience some knowledge of what the character is and notice the theme of sex, drugs and rock n roll.
Our media piece represents the adult life of a teacher who is living the life of the swinging sixties. We represent the stereotypical 60s lifestyle of sex, drugs and rock n roll by using the opening sequence of shots with the film. The way we showed the auidience was by filming shots of the mise-en-scene, clothing and well known album covers from that era.
We made sure that our representation of the swinging sixties wasn't out of place from which modern culture takes that era.
We used our research on the 1960's and based our teachers lifestyle mainly by the influence of the film 'The Boat That Rocked'. In this film, the representation of the swinging sixties is full of the cliche life of sex, drugs and rock n roll. For example, the character of Gavin Cavanagh is an eccentric, larger than life character, which presents a pirate radio show. Of course this isn't from a true pesron, but its a representation of what the swinging sixties society was like.
From this, we created a character that suited the representation of the swinging sixties and made sure that the character was an over the top comedic character. Our basis of the character was influenced by Gavin Cavanagh in the film 'The Boat That Rocked', making sure that our character was over the top.
With our task of the opening credits sequence, i have found that the technology side of the media was rather easy to understand. We, as a duo, found out how we could make two frames have different shots within them and having a background to give the opening credits a professional look, instead of an amateur GCSE take on the sequence. Also, in the opening shot of the vinyl, we have used a zoom out technique to follow through to the next shot, however we both agreed that this would be our only special technique, otherwise, if we used anymore, it would make our piece look rather amateur and lose the professionalism of our piece. Using the technology, I now understand how to import the music and edit the film along with the music, making sure that both elements fit within the media. We, also found out that, by using copyrighted music, that if this was a film being produced worlwide, that we would have had to ask for the copyright of the music and go through that process. Before this media task, I never knew how to achieve this.
