Bridge (Solo)

Coda/Outro

Starts on IV, sense of being away from home reinforced by the chorus having the only phrase that begins on the tonic.

Complex Harmony in the intro, but when played on guitar makes more sense (can deduce that this was obviously composed on guitar)

Intro

IV/VII IVc IV/VII Imaj7d Ia Imaj7d Ia

Bass of E and F creates a sense of movement and remains unresolved in bar2 to give weight to the final resolution on Ia in bar 4.

Reverb on the vocals give a sense of space in keeping with the lyrical themes of the song.

Reverb and open position chords and the ringing of the open notes both in the strummed pattern and the raked guitar notes add to the sense of space (fitting for the lyric).

4/4 throughout.

Very typical strumming characterised by the lack of semiquaver at the end of each bar to make time for change in hand position, this can be heard in the open strings on the last quaver of each bar.

Melody begins after a quaver rest. This will become important when referenced against later sections.

Melody

Homophonic, Guitar 2 playing the same notes as guitar one but raked semibreves adds weight to the texture rather than thickening by adding more notes.

Major tonality though sense of a home key is only felt slightly due to beginning on IV and weak plagal cadences at bars 3 and 7. Some ambiguity at this stage as to home without the score at hand.
