Sensory Receptors

  • Mechanoreceptors: Function-responds to mechanical pressure or distortion

Location- in nonhairy skin.

  • Thermoreceptors: Function-perceive sensations related to the temperature of objects the skin feels Location-found in the dermis layer of the skin
  • Chemoreceptors: Function-detects certain chemical stimuli in the environment. Location-ventrolateral medullary surface
  • Photoreceptors: Function-sense the position of the different parts of the body in relation to each other and the surrounding environment Location- found in tendons, muscles, and joint capsules
  • Pain Receptors: Function-detect pain or stimuli that can or does cause damage to the skin and other tissues of the body Location-found in skin, muscles, bones, blood vessels, and some organs

  • is a biological pigment of the retina that is responsible for both the formation of the photoreceptor cells and the first events in the perception of light
