Shin pads can come in many differant materials such as fiber glass, foam rubber, plastic and polyurethane. Fiber glass is stiff, sturdy and light weight. Foam rubber is light weight and is sturdy but is not as sturdy as fiberglass. Plastic is less protective than other types of shin pads. Polyurethane is the most protective but is quite heavy. Most people use fiberglass because it is light and it will protect your knees, I would't recommend plastic shin pads to an olympyian because they aren't strong and they will break easy.

How shin pads have changed

Olympic Hockey

  • Hockey turfs use to just be grass and the goal post were like bendy metal and oval shaped. There was only 2 bars holding the goal up. The ground was very stiff and it was hard to move the hockey ball around. Now it's easy to move around because the ground is not grass, its artificuel grass and made out of a bunch of sythinec fibers. It's much easyer to play on and it ment to look like grass

How has technology influenced hockey?

How hockey Turfs have changed

Hockey was first invented in 1880 and was introduced into the Olympics in 1908.

The hockey sticks

The hockey stick on the left is one of the hockey sticks people use now and the one on the right is an olden day hockey stick.

How hockey sticks have changed?

The first hockey stick was invented in 1849 in Blackheath south east London. In those days they made it out of weak, heavy wood and aluminium materials but as years got on people started to make it out of hard and strong wood. They also make it out of fibreglass now, because they wanted the hockey sticks to be lighter and so it’s easier to move around with the hockey stick.
