The Simple Links
We started by having the idea that our music video would link to our preliminary tasks by the use of photography. We thought that if we used photos of the beach location which we would take while shooting the video, then these photos would be easily noticed when a customer saw the digipack or magazine advert. This was a good idea but we needed something which would be a clearer link between the beach and the video.
The digipack used both the Instagram template and the images which we took on the beach while shooting the music video. We put filters over most of the images so that they all had the summer vibe feel and look. I also played around with the mirroring of images, this made up the basis of the track list and lyric page which meant we still used imagery to give a bordered effect for the text to be placed on top of.
After gathering some audience feedback on our rough music video we noticed that there were certain parts of the video where the camera was videoing in a different position. This left us with certain clips changing their position on screen, for example going from landscape to portrait. We then addressed this and this is when we came up with the idea for the Instagram template. Not only would this template hide the change of the shots positioning but it would also give us a great reason for promoting our band, linking the coasts with other indie bands which use Instagram and meant we could then design a poster and digipack using the same Instagram template/design.
Instagram Idea
We came up with the idea that by incorporating the Instagram template into our music video, this would show that our band is heavily involved in social networking, not only to promote the band but to release news about the band member's everyday lives, as do many other musicians. Many Indie Artists at the moment are using social networking as a way to promote so by creating this persona it not only allowed us to build up our star image of a group who like photography, art, and are into the normal everyday teenager activites like Instagram but also meant we then had another focus point of how we could link our Pre-Preliminary tasks, with our Music video.
