S H O T T Y P E S

A low-angle shot, is a shot from a camera angle positioned low on the vertical axis, but looking up. The effect of the low-angle shot is that it makes the subject look strong and powerful.

Establishing Shot Usually the first shot of a scene, this is used to portray the location or environment of a certain area. Establishing Shots are usually known as Extreme Long Shots or Long Shots.

The tilted frame produces a viewpoint of someone tilting their head to the side. In cinematography, the tilted frame is one of many cinematic techniques often used to portray uneasiness or tension in the subject being filmed.

A high-angle shot is a cinematic technique where the camera looks down on the subject from a high angle. High-angle shots can make the subject seem vulnerable or powerless when combined with the correct mood, setting, and effects.

The extreme close-up shot is used to allow the viewer to enter the character’s intimate space, revealing certain emotions that goes unnoticed from afar. This unnaturally close view intensifies feelings that the character is experiencing and allows us to feel sympathy for, and establish a connection with, the character in question.

Mid shots are used more frequently than other shots. This is because it is able to capture emotions, dialogue and body language.

The back of the shoulder and head of this person is used to frame the image of whatever (or whomever) the camera is pointing toward. This type of shot is very common when two characters are having a discussion

The worm's eye view shot can be used to look up to something to make an object look tall, strong, and mighty while the viewer feels child-like or powerless. This is a type of modification to the low angle shot.
