Celebrate Children's Day/Book Day (Celebremos El día de los niños/El día de los libros)
"Bookjoy"
Pat Mora's goal as a writer and presenter is to engage people of all ages to find the "quiet, knowledge, entertainment, and wisdom" readers can experience through books.
"Bookjoy! I coined the word years ago and readers always smile when I say it. They know the private pleasure of settling down with a good book."
~Pat Mora
The goals of Día is a daily commitment to:
- honor children and childhood,
- promote multilingual literacy, the importance of linking all children to books, languages and cultures,
- honor home languages and cultures, and thus promoting bilingual and multilingual literacy in this multicultural nation, and global understanding through reading,
- involve parents and family in this valuable promotion of literacy
- promote library collection development that reflects diversity and multiculturalism
In Spanish, Día means "day". El día de los niños/El día de los libros, Children's Day/Book Day is a community-based, family literacy initiative celebrated across the country in schools, libraries, and other community locations. Its goal is to link all children to books, languages and cultures day by day, día por día.
Pat Mora's "Día" has inspired me to hopefully start a celebration in our school or city.
She encourages multilingualism and multiculturalism.
"Bookjoy" is something I hope to encourage with my students in English and Spanish!
Pat Mora has a true passion for inspiring children, teens, and adults to develop a love for reading and "bookjoy"
Her books are beautiful depictions of different cultures.
Pat Mora supports teachers and librarians by providing curriculum ideas and activities that use themes from her books.
