Psycho Geography Work

The Map of Land and Feeling (2008-11)

Using his passport, Tirivanija turned the places he had been over the last 20 years (1988-2008) into a print. Also accompanied by a backpack installation, which held some of the items he carried across the world with him. It is a piece using psycho geography as a mode of self-reflection

The Land Project

The Land Project (started 1998) is a self sustaining environment/community 20km outside of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Built on an old rice field, Tirivanija and a few other artists set about building houses on stilts that could be used and shared by everyone. There is a field for growing food in also, that must be shared by everyone. The idea behind this was one that reflected visions of Utopia, and because of this the artists made a rule that the land could be built upon by anyone, as long it belonged to everyone who lived there.
