The purpose of the video and

ancillary products.

Record labels use music videos

and magazine adverts.

These are to help launch the albums.

They also use other platforms

like social media.

This means the theme must be clear

between all of the products.

Record labels aim to establish brand awareness in audiences

GRAFFITI

To make video feel Urban I focused on filming in areas ridden with Graffiti.

I searched for different locations that

felt 'Grimey/dangerous.

These areas inspired me when creating

my art work.

IMPORTANCE OF LINKING MOOD

WITH THE PRODUCTS

The front cover image

shows the boy in the

graffiti ridden area.

The song 'Up All Night'

is from the blink 182 album

Neighborhoods. To me this meant

something dark and grimey, and

that is the mood I have tried

to capture.

I felt that the BLACK paper with,

white sketching worked in emphasizing

a mood that was grimey, dark and

hopeless.

THE LOGO

Since 2003 blink 182 has always used

their famous 'smiley' logo.

I took the logo and manipulated it, to fit in with my sketch theme.

This logo finds itself in all parts of the

ancilliary products.

The smiley is important because

it represents 'blink 182' and this

runs through all of the art work

A running theme of

hopelessness!

The song 'Up All Night' is about a character who

is restless due to the dismal events surounding him.

Whatever obstacle is in his way, he cannot win.

His battle is hopless. This theme is what needs to run

though all of the products.

Pop Punk is usually colorful and amusing.

blink 182 did this back in 1999 with their album

'Enema of the state' a joke indicating that

their music was cleaning out all the feces from the State.

This theme ran through the entire album artwork

In that image you see the band themselves

waiting for their own Enema, from the

famous blink 182 nurse.

In the video for the song 'Whats my age again?'

The band members run past the nurse.

Blink 182 have changed as people in the 12 years since 'Enema of the state' Instead of a running gag about Enemas. Neighborhoods, and the Song 'Up All Night' are very hopeless. And this is the running theme I have tried to create.

For 'Up All Night' I don't have a nurse character to appear in the video and art work. Instead I have focus on the teenager George. Who always appears alone in the art work.

He is alone in the front cover

of the album.

And he is alone, in a shot taken from the video of him

running in the rain. And this still is found as the basis of the magazine advert.

The fact that he is always alone is very

important. His solitude emphasizes

his hopelessness and desperation.

The band

performance is vital and should feature in art work.

Image of band adopts black

and white sketch theme.

It is usual for the band to appear

at the back of the CD/DVD cover.

I have incorporated the band image

to the back of the DVD cover.

Notes

To emphasize gloom, every location must feel grimey.

The location should alter due to the events happening in the story. Party must seem nicer, than run in rain.

LOCATION

IS

VITAL!

The gloom in the video MUST

be reflected in the print work.

There MUST be a strong link in

the MOOD and ATTITUDE

of the video and print work.
