How effective were the combinations of your main product and ancillary texts?

THE NARRATIVE

The Narrative of our short film, is shown throughout our ancillary texts. As the film poster explains to the audience what the narrative is, so therfeore this can be effective becsaue it makes it clear showing that the main product and our ancillary text links. The narrative of my short film was aimed at teenagers and people who face the problem as our actor this is because they could relate to the character.

Ancillary texts are the texts which help to promote the main product, our Camouflage short film.The ancillary texts that we have used to advertise the radio trailer are a poster and a website. The ancillary texts should have constant themes running throughout all three texts in order to be easily identifiable. The combination of our poster, website and radio trailer have been effective and successful as they have all formed the solid brand of identity of ’Camouflage'.

The name of the trailer links to the poster imagery used as shows a shadow over a young female. This combines the image we have used and the name of the short film. We created the image for the backgrounds of our poster through the same software of Photoshop CS3, this is shown through the post of my website titled, ”Planning of ancillary text". We believe this image overlay made through Photoshop gives a similar image quality between the short film and ancillary tasks, making them visually match.

As Shown, the poster is very similar to the website, by using the same background color scheme, the two media products are clearly linked,We have chosen to do this because the color brown on our website and poster combines well with the genre of the our short film and incorporates the title of our short film which is camouflage. Brown and black can be used as a semiotic of scared, lost or even wonder. So combines the trailers genre with the ancillary tasks well.

Overall, we believe that the ancillary texts combine well with the teaser trailer. This effective combination of the three media texts is demonstrated through the brown color schemes, the genre and audience representations and the image used.

Successes vs failures

We had some successes and some failures when in can to combining our main product and our ancillary texts: Below I will list some points of our successes and not successful accomplishments.

Some Unsuccessful points are:

The imagery was not really similar

The poster did not incorporate images from our short film which might not excite the audience as much as we would like it to.

The text in our ancillary matched our main product

All of the pieces use convention of the experimetal/ mivong image genre

Our short film is an independent short film

The text in my main production, shor film and my ancillary texts are both the same. We have decided to use the same text because we thought it would all link together, which would make them an effective combination. The text also links well with the genre of our shor film, which is experimental and moving images.

I believe that the combination of our main product and my ancillary texts have been both effective and successful because they all have a relationship. Each of my media texts are linked together. In both the poster and the radio Trailer. I have used the voice overs of our main product (the short film).This is effective because as an audience, the ancillary texts offer more advertisement of the short film, as well as the radio trailer. Unlike the Poster,a Radio Trailer can be re-read. The radio trailer also offers more information on the short film, for example spoilers coming up, interviews,or of characters. In the society we live in, when we like a media product we tend to want to know all there is about it including the stories, characters and actors involved. For example my poster advertises an exclusive interview with one of the characters, and briefly goes through from the radio trailer, giving the reader a taste of all the interesting events happening or coming up. Because of this, all my media products work alongside each other to advertise it as a whole. The audience can identify with each one and get more from the short itself. For example they could hear the radio the trailer and identify with how they saw a poster for the new short film and thought it looked good, It then grabs and sustains their attention. Making it much more effective and available than if it was just the short film by itself.
