Transcript: Some of the programs used inside and outside of the facility are AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), NA (Narcotics Anonymous), and Elko Mental Health. Also, clients are encouraged to meet with their primary care providers to continue medications that may be needed even after leaving the treatment facility. How do we help? Within Vitality Center, group therapy, AA/NA meetings, detox, and Family Communication Day are utilized to assist the client in completing their treatment. When clients leave the facility, outside resources are availble for them to continue and be successful in their recovery. The mental health nurse is a lead person within the interdisciplinary team and has a great deal of contanct with the clients. In some ways, the mental health nuse will see the client at their worst when dealing with their demons (addiction, psychological disorders, etc.). "A.A.’s Single Purpose Tradition Five: Each group has but one primary purpose to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers. 'There are those who predict that A.A. may well become a new spearhead for a spiritual awakening throughout the world. When our friends say these things, they are both generous and sincere. But we of A.A. must reflect that such a tribute and such a prophecy could well prove to be a heady drink for most of us—that is, if we really came to believe this to be the real purpose of A.A., and if we commenced to behave accordingly. 'Our Society, therefore, will prudently cleave to its single purpose: the carrying of the message to the alcoholic who still suffers. Let us resist the proud assumption that since God has enabled us to do well in one area we are destined to be a channel" ( A.A. Literature ,Alcoholics Anonymous, 2015). What is rehabilitation? Mental Health Nursing by Christina R. Ruby NURS 159 The purpose of AA is to offer clients a safe place that they can go to discuss and deal with the common thread of addiction. Mental health nurses play a valuable role in the rehabilitation of clients who suffer from mental health issues. These issues include the behavior of those who have substance abuse issues. The goal of rehabilitation is to return the client to a healthy, functioning state so they may move beyond their time of addiction or learn to live with the symptoms of their illness. This group format is used within the treatment facility and participation after leaving the facility is encouraged.

Transcript: I like being able to work with people of all ages and help them through their problems -Compassion -People Person -Friendly -Comfortable talking to people -Big Personality Working Conditions Earnings vary depending on location, training, experience, and place of employment.Generally, full-time mental health nurses can expect to make anywhere from about $45,000 to $90,000 a year, although some senior nurses earn more than this. Nurses can increase their earnings by doing overtime work. They also receive pay for being on-call, which means they are ready to go to work on a moment’s notice if needed. By: Mackenzie Harris Job Description Though the exact duties of mental health nurses vary depending on where they work, they all have common goals. They try to keep their patients safe, help them adjust to their environment, and as much as possible, help them regain their mental health. Nurses do all of these things by observing, assessing, and reporting on their patients’ conditions, and by providing therapeutic care and treatment to the patients.Together with doctors, psychiatrists, and social workers, mental health nurses assess their patients’ conditions and determine the best course of treatment and therapy. Once the initial assessment is made, the course of treatment and therapy begins. Some mental health nurses specialize in working with children and adolescents or with the elderly. Many work in acute care facilities with patients who are a danger to themselves and others. Some work only with prison populations, and others work with those who have substance abuse problems. 8:30 am – Walk into work Skill Required -Therapist- for people with mental illnesses -Suicide Prevention -RNs- Not Mental health Nurses just a RN Educational requirements for becoming a mental health or psychiatric nurse vary depending on the province. The exact route to becoming a mental health nurse after you have obtained your RN qualification depends on the employer. Some train RNs on the job, and others may require them to have obtained specialized training in mental health before they are hired. Post-graduate programs in mental health nursing are available at a number of colleges and universities. This is an example of the day in the life of Cheray Black, a registered mental health in New York 9:30-10:30am Clinical rounds! This is where we report on our 68 clients and bring the team up to speed with the latest developments. This is also where we prioritize and have clinical discussions about how to deal with our most unstable client’s and the stable client’s. At the end of this meeting, all team members, excluding one who has a paper work day, gets assigned 4-6 clients to visit for the day (sometimes more depending on the details of our discussion). Disadvantages Related Jobs Mental Health Nursing Yes, if you are a Mental Health Nurse you can be promoted to Psychiatric- Mental Health Head Nurse which is the nurse that supervises and is in charge. Advantages Final thoughts 10:30-12pm – Being the only nurse on the team now, I complete all my nursing related tasks and duties. This includes, but it not limited to checking all the meds before they go out, calling the pharmacy to correct a med error (you definitely do not want your client’s taking the wrong meds)–medication knowledge and awareness is pertinent here; answering phone calls to deal with concerns of the client’s and/or the hospitals who are caring for your clients and advocating for my client’ rights. Preparing for my visits of the Future outlook 8:30-9:30am Get all my notes done from the previous day before morning rounds to update the team on my client’s current status (doesn’t always work out). Yes, there are definitely nursing jobs that you can work in for 5-10 years and even longer and Nurse that who have worked in their field for 5-10 years or even longer https://thesocialclimb.wordpress.com/2011/09/07/i-am-a-mental-health-nurse-and-this-is-a-day-in-my-work-life/ I think I would be good at this job and would enjoy it very much! This is definitely a career I'm seriously considering, maybe not this exact career but some sort nursing. Education 12-4:30pm Home visits are up next. I travel via public transit, company vehicle or walk. Dealing with the unexpected delays is an everyday setback. Clinical skills come into play the minute you walk into someone’s home. You are assessing their mental status as well as protecting their and your safety. Rule as a Community Nurse – never get too complacent when providing treatment in someone’s home. Always identify your exits should something happen. If the client is doing well and is at their baseline, that is great. If not, the hard part comes in. Hospitalizing a client is not the best feeling in the world, however it is the most therapeutic when they are of harm to themselves or others. Hospitalizing clients may break the trust that they had in you as a provider or it may make it stronger when they are well and realize that they needed
