With the given time frame, I will be writing the information that will go into the app Begin parametric study: Speak with my mentor and Jason to understand more about what critical variables I could concentrate on for this app. Choose those parameters and begin my study Gather information from NFPA 101 and NFPA 13 for new and existing education, business, and mercantile occupancies. By: Breanne Thompson Next Steps (Continued) Finish preparing for Draft of Analysis Pull together and discuss results of project Draw my conclusions and state future work needed Turn in Final Paper! 10th and 11th Week Turn in my parametric study Begin draft of analysis Map out the process of the app for the key elements 15th Week References Next Steps 7th Week Prepare for Final Presentation Summarize my draft of analysis into presentation Work on how to incorporate a live demonstration for my presentation App Development Background Information 8th-9th Week Continuous Process Objective-C for Apple products Java for Android products 6 months of studying Places to Learn: Codecademy, iOS Dev Center, Android Developers Training Hire App Developer will cost thousands Prepare Final Paper Dive into Shark Tank! 1. http://lifehacker.com/5401954/programmer-101-teach-yourself-how-to-code 2. http://www.bluecloudsolutions.com/blog/cost-develop-app/ 6th Week Background Presentation 12th-13th Week

Transcript: Trees, Plants & Shrubs Importance of Plants Why are plants Important? Ecosystem Ecosystem Biomes A biome is an extensive ecological unit, largely defined by climate, representing major life zones of large natural areas. In south Africa there are 9 biomes. Each biome has a characteristic set of plant species, typified by overall physiognomy and animal species. Biomes Guiding and Plants Guiding - Predicting animal movements - Symbiosis - Education - Aesthetic Strangler fig Definition What is a PLANT? An autotrophic organism that contains chlorophill and is able to produce it's own food from organic material through photosynthesis and is non-mobile Definition Definition Plant Kingdom [taxonomy] Plant Kingdom THALLOPHYTES BRYOPHYTES PTERIDOPHYTES SPERMATOPHYTES GYMNOSPERMS ANGEOSPERMS DICOTS MONOCOTS Taxonomy breakdown Magic Guarri Taxonomy KINGDOM Plantae PHYLUM Spermatophyta CLASS Angiosperms ORDER Ericales FAMILY Ebenaceae GENUS Euclea SPECIES divinorum Plant Identification How to Identify a Plant ID features ID features of a tree 1) LEAVES (structure and arrangement) - photosynthesis - transportation [gets rid of excess water, cools plant & causes suction through plant] - modification to thorns e.g. Acacia 2) STEMS - carry the leaves - transportation xylem - transports water & minerals from roots to leaves phloem - transports nutrients around plant after photosynthesis - modification to branch to a spine e.g. sicklebush ID features of a tree 3) ROOTS - anchor the plant - absorption of water & minerals - modifications e.g. storage 4) SEEDS - reproduction - dispersal [wind, water, animal, self-propelled] 5) HABITAT and DISTRIBUTION 6) LATEX 7) OVERALL FORM e.g. umbrella thorn Leaf Formations simple bipinnately compound pinnately compound trifoliolate Bifoliolate Mopane Greenthorn Bushmans grape Spikethorn karee White-irnwood African weeping-wattle Sicklebush Acacias Buffalo-thorn Bushwillows Proteas Yellowwoods Marula Sneezewood Wild-plum Cape-ash Leaf Arrangements alternate clustered opposite spiral Stemfruit Common wild fig Common guarri Camphorbush Spikethorn Sourplum Wild-medlar Lowveld numnum Waterberry Sheperd's tree Silver clusterleaf Puzzlebush Identify the tree Silver cluster leaf Formation: spreading crown and horizontal branches, sivery appearance Leaves: grey green with a clustered leaf structure. pubecent leaves. the hairs are greyish silver in colour and cover both sides making the tree look slightly silver from a distance Bark: redish bark on young stems; grey on older Flowers: small whitish cream with very unpleasent smell Seed pods: flat, pinkish colour that form in a cluster Habitat & Distribution: open woodland and bushveld. prefur sandy soils and usually seen at seep lines Plant uses Marula The End.

Transcript: By Junie, Mira and Aiden Trees How Trees Help How do Trees Help Us Trees are something that humans cannot live without. All plants turn CO2 into oxygen (although trees are the biggest contributor of oxygen). They are much nicer to look at than cement and cars. Trees and plants support pollinators, which are also an important part of our enviroment. They give us shade. Photos Reducing C02 emmisions C02 There are about 2.4 million pounds of carbon emissions produced per second in the world. The graph on the right shows the global emissions from fossil fuels from 1900-2014. The United States is the second biggest polluting country (after China and before Russia). Cycles Cycles Cycles of air and carbon dioxide are very important to every town, city, and even the world. These cycles show how air travels through the atmosphere and how it transforms into other substances. Oxygen Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Carbon Dioxide 78 million acres of rainforests are being cut down each year 20% of the oxygen on Earth comes from the Amazon rainforest 90 acres of trees are cut down every minute Facts Facts Dogwoods Dogwoods Dogwood trees can grow up to 20 to 30 feet Their flowers are either pink or white The leaves turn red and purple in fall There are 17 species of dogwoods Dogwood branches change color Cornus florida Pollution The main contributors of greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide (fossil fuel and industrial processes) and methane. About 65% comes from industrial processes - which include car carbon emissions. Malawi – Climate/Agriculture Trading partners: South Africa, Zambia, China, US Challenges: · shortage of qualified primary school teachers; · inadequate physical infrastructure; · poor retention of girls mainly from standard five to eight; · high disease burden due to HIV and AIDS consequently leading to absenteeism especially among girls who take care of the sick; and · poor participation of school committees and their communities in school management. · Poverty levels are high in rural areas. 1 Doctor per 50,000 people Hinders the ability to deliver medical services to people in need Reason: Emigration Lack of access to education Aggravated by AIDS > 4 nurses are lost each month This also affects other sectors: Government Business Farmers Human Resources HIV/AIDS - Contemporary GDP: US $14.58 billion (2012 est.) Countries main income Agriculture Main crops: maize, tobacco, tea, sugar cane, groundnuts, cotton, wheat, coffee, and rice Industry: tobacco, tea, sugar, sawmill products, cement, consumer goods Challenges: limited capacity in terms of human and material resources to facilitate adult literacy and continuing education; early marriages perpetuated by socioeconomic factors; socio–cultural factors that make people believe that men should be leaders while women are followers; and, poor learning environment which affects girls in primary and secondary schools e.g. sanitary facilities, long distances to education facilities, extra burden from domestic chores especially for adolescent girls resulting into high dropout rate. 1964: Independent from Britain Indicator 1: Maternal Mortality Ratio Malawi Demographics Problems - Outline Indicator 4: Share of Women in Wage Employment in the Non- Agriculture Sector measure of employment opportunities ( i.e equal proportions of men and women in formal employment) Yet, more women participate in the agriculture sector than in the formal wage employment especially in jobs that require professional qualifications. Due to: literacy levels, gender disparity and cultural values.
