KNOWLEDGE STUDENTS CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT...
PERSONAL FINANCES
Will students know how to manage their money when they're on their own?

FCS helps students learn to think proactively about their finances and to budget accordingly, avoiding excessive debt and planning for financial independence and success.
CAREER PLANNING
Students graduate high school...
then what?

Thoughtful career exploration and planning
enables students to choose a career path, understand the education required and plan accordingly.

(College is an expensive place to explore careers!)
HEALTHY FOOD & LIVING
child development
Babies don't come with directions.

FCS prepares tomorrow's parents, teachers and child care providers to understands the needs of young children and their roles and responsibilities for nurturing growth and development.
independent living
Do young adults have the skills and knowledge they need to live independently?

Living independently requires a variety of skill sets, from managing personal finances to understanding nutrition. FCS courses address the challenges of every day life, helping to develop successful adults.
Cheeseburger, fries and a large soda? Or, hamburger, apple slices and low-fat chocolate milk? Ride a bike or play video games?

Hands-on experiences in meal planning, food preparation and tasting help motivate students to make healthy choices and lifestyle decisions for a longer, healthier life. Future benefits could include healthcare cost savings for themselves and society.
TESTIMONIALS
"In my FCS class, public speaking was critical to learn. While I hated it at the time, I now do it every day for my job. At the NBC's TODAY Show, I have to interview someone different every day for a story. It's important that I'm comfortable speaking and asking tough questions, no matter who the individual in front of me is. My FCS class taught me this skill early on in life, and I'm better at my job because of it."

--Carter McKay
"Before my FCS classes, I had an idea of what my college experience might look like. Following my classes, I actually had a tangible plan to achieve the most out of my experience. Before my FCS classes, I had no idea how I was going to afford a college education. Now, I'm graduating in 4 years with nearly no debt. Throughout a semester of my FCS class, my vision quickly became a reality with the help of some amazing teachers and materials."

--Luke Romick
"My husband got injured and lost his job, leaving us with nearly nothing in our bank account. Without the money management and the cooking sections of FCS classes, we would not have been prepared for that very difficult time in our lives, as it would have been awful if the first time we had to figure out budgeting was when we were in financial crisis. Luckily, I had the privilege of taking this class, and for that I am very thankful."
