The Great Depression

WW II brought great economic opportunity to the US with all the jobs and revenue
For the first time in about 10 years the unemployment rate had dropped below 2%
Making weapons and tanks were the two most famous jobs.
How did people get by during the Great Depression ?
The Great Depression lasted between 1929 to 1939
Was not completely resolved until 1941
During 1933, over 13 million people were effected by the Great Depression
25% of all people had no jobs.
20% of all people ate from soup kitchens
Herbert campaigned in 1928
Attacked the Great Depression by cutting taxes, and assigning work projects
No one was laid off unless under extreme conditions
All of this didn't help the economy
In 1933, he was voted out for FDR
In 1933, FDR was elected
Jobs were created that were war related
FDR successfully carried the US through the Great Depression and WWII

US declared war on Japan, Italy, and Nazi Germany in 1941 after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor
Everyone ended up getting jobs that were war related
In 1933, the U.S had a unemployment rate of 25%, but just 10 years later in 1944, it dropped down to around 2%
Other counties also solved their Great Depression problems in the same way because they joined the war like Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other countries in Europe
The Great Depression was caused by the Stock Market Crash
The stock market crashed because of investors taking out large amounts of money at once.
This caused many banks to close.
Many people lost their money and had to start from scratch.
Not a lot of money was made during the Great Depression.
The lucky people who worked on farms made up to $50 a month, which is about $900 today.
That money was only enough to buy basic needs like food, water, and clothing.
Later on, people started doing jobs that would be related to WWII.
