Could Hamlet be bipolar?
REMEMBER HE MUST MEET THE DSM FIVE CRITERIA!


DSM FIVE CRITERIA: DIAGNOSTIC AND STATISTICAL MANUAL OF MENTAL DISORDERS
ANXIETY?
People with anxiety avoid confronting the cause- Hamlet confronts the ghost of his father


BUT...
Hamlet does present two symptoms of anxiety: restlessness and irritablity
BUT...
In order to have a mood disorder one must have at least five symptoms
Panic disorder?
A panic disorder is an intense feeling of terror and fear that it will happen again soon

Hamlet does have panic attacks but DOES NOT fear about the next time it will happen...
Stress Disorder?
caused by tramatic experience:

Hamlet's father's death, and learning who killed him

STILL NO...only shows three symptoms that could mean stress disorder;aggressive behavior,hypervigilization, and restlessness

Unusual talkitivness
Involvement in activities with bad consequences
HE COULD HAVE
BIPOLAR 1 DISORDER
Did Hamlet have a mood disorder?

Thoughts of death and suicide
Hamlet does
NOT
qualify
WHAT DOES THIS PROVE?
Mental Disorders do not make someone crazy
Hamlet does not meet the diagnostic criteria for Mental Disorders
Hamlet is simply crazy because of interactions
