Transcript of J.R.R TOLKIEN

He was born on January 3, 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. He started to study at the Exeter College when he was settled in England .

He published the popular fantasy novels The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy while teaching in The Oxford Unbiversity.
Early Life
When his mother died Tolkien and his siblings moved to a boarding house with a Catholic priest.

When he was at the college he specialized in Anglo-Saxon and Germanic languages and classic literature.
Academic Career
Tolkien's Legacy
The Lord of the Rings:
-Written in an almost archaic form.
-Lacking the modern emphasis on the "inner life"
-Melancholy environmentalism and fully realized alternative world are very modern.

The Hobbbit:
-The conflict is about an adventure, Bilbo the protagonist with others characters had to go to recover the gold that was stolen by the dragon which was from Thorin's grandfather that was the king of the mountain.

He became a professor in English Language at the University of Leeds. He also collaborated with E. V. Gordon on the famous edition of 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight'.
He made a lot of contributions on various Magazines and books like, Gryphon Magazine, Microcosm, TLS, Yorkshire Poetry, Leeds University Verse, e.o.
On Oxford, Tolkien met C. S. Lewis, who became one of her closest friends. Tolkien was a huge inspiration for Lewis when he wrote "The Chronicles of Narnia"
J. R. R Tolkien's writing style
His writing style was also unique in his own fashion, but he disliked using fancy vocabulary. And when compared with other fantasy fictions, The Lord of the Rings noticeably does not contain many fighting scenes.
Curious Facts
When Tolkien was a child he was kidnapped by a black man for one day because he wanted to show to his family a white child.
Even though he was passionate with literature he hated Shakespeare
Tolkien spoke and understood at least
20 languages
His first work was the Silmarillion
Last Days
He died at the age of 81.
