At first Coca Cola had cocaine it got the cocaine from the coca leaf. For every gallon Pemberton used 5 oz of coca leafs which contained 9 miligarms of cocaine. Coca cola gets it caffine from the kola nuts. Each kola nut contains 2 to 3.5% caffine. In 1912 the caffine was almost taken away by the U.S. Pure Food and Drug Act. Now the Coca Cola formula has 34 mg of caffeine per 12 oz.
